Juniper rigs and Isopropyl Alcohol

Juniper cautions against the use of Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) in water wash carts equipped with immersion heaters due to its flammability. Cautions are provided in the Aircraft Maintenance manuals to this effect.

If water washing at temperatures lower than 50C / 400F is desired:

1. Disable the immersion heaters.

The immersion heaters should be isolated. This is achieved by padlocking the isolation switch on the electrical control panel in the off position and tagging the padlock with a warning label (JMP/IPA/B/6822).

2. Use IPA for anti-icing as defined in the AMM.

To revert back to hot water washing proceed as follows:

3. Flush the water tanks at least twice with water to ensure that all IPA has been removed.

Industry alternatives to IPA have been considered, but have not proved acceptable.
